The G20 Tourism Expo 2023, held in the cultural heart of India—Jaipur, showcased the splendor of Rajasthan’s rich heritage to the world. Organized by the Ministry of Tourism and the Government of Rajasthan from 23rd to 25th April, the event marked a significant step towards reviving global tourism, bringing together leaders and influencers from around the world.
Rooftop Arts Foundation was honoured to be part of this prestigious gathering by curating a culturally immersive workshop for the G20 Delegates, emphasizing the vibrant and age-old puppetry art of Rajasthan, popularly known as Kathputli. This workshop was led by the renowned puppeteer, Mr. Papu Bhat, whose legacy in the art form is widely celebrated. The delegates had the unique opportunity to delve into the intricate world of puppetry, painting, and manipulating the traditional Rajasthani puppets, while listening to tales woven through strings and colours.
Reviving Tradition through Engagement
The workshop was more than just an introduction to the craft—it was a journey through time, bridging the gap between eras and showcasing how traditional art forms can serve as powerful tools of storytelling and cross-cultural dialogue. Rooftop Arts Foundation aims to keep such folk arts relevant and engaging for global audiences by offering a platform where culture, creativity, and education intersect.
Appreciation from the Global Community
The overwhelming appreciation and heartfelt feedback from international delegates have further strengthened Rooftop Arts Foundation’s mission to promote India’s artistic heritage on the global stage. The handcrafted puppets, carefully painted by the delegates under Mr. Papu Bhat’s guidance, became souvenirs of an unforgettable experience—each one representing a small piece of Rajasthan’s artistic soul.
A Path Forward
Rooftop Arts Foundation remains dedicated to creating meaningful cultural experiences that resonate with diverse audiences, ensuring that the artistic legacy of India continues to inspire and captivate. With this successful event, we have once again underscored the potential of Indian art and cultural tourism, bringing people together through shared creativity and the timeless beauty of tradition.
